Page 1: Introduction

You are being invited to anonymously participate in a research project conducted by the Royal Veterinary College. The information given below summarises eligibility, the outline of questionnaire and the benefits of participating.

Who can participate?

If you have experienced a strangles outbreak since January 1st 2020 you are eligible to complete the questionnaire.

What would I have to do?

This anonymous questionnaire aims to find out more about the circumstances and events surrounding the outbreak involving your horse. We would also like to find out more about your opinions and experiences surrounding biosecurity practices you may use on your premises, as well as any impacts the COVID-19 pandemic has had on your awareness of disease transmission.

The questionnaire should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and you may complete it in more than one sitting by clicking 'Finish Later' and following the steps outlined.

What are the benefits of participating?

Through your participation in this project your answers will be contributing to this important field of strangles research. With the improved knowledge of how S. equi is spread across the UK comes the opportunity to identify areas where guidance and education can be improved and then circulated amongst communities. All in all, the information provided by yourself will be helping to reduce the spread of strangles and the impact it has on horses and owners.

All information you provide will be stored and processed in line with the Royal Veterinary College's data protection policies. Data will be kept in a password-protected database to which only relevant members of the study team will have access. All information will be anonymised in presentations and publications arising from the project, and no individual premises, persons or animals will be identifiable. The information you provide will be used only for this research project, and not passed on to a third party.
